BES Stamped Concrete: 6 Steps to Perfect Pavement
Stamped concrete has revolutionized modern landscaping. It offers the beauty of natural stone, slate, wood, or brick, combined with the durability and cost-effectiveness of concrete. But transforming a plain gray slab into a stunning architectural feature is an art form that requires precision, high-quality materials, and strict adherence to a proven process.
At BES, we’ve been perfecting this craft for over 15 years. Here is our step-by-step guide to the professional stamped concrete process, ensuring a seamless, durable, and breathtaking finish.
🛠️ The Essential Materials
Before construction begins, the right material system is crucial. A high-quality BES stamped concrete project relies on three core components:
- Concrete Colorant Powder (Color Hardener): For penetrating color and surface strength.
- Mold Release Agent: To prevent sticking and add secondary antiquing color.
- Sealing Protector: To lock in color and protect against UV, water, and wear.
🏗️ The 6-Step Stamped Concrete Process
Step 1: Pouring and Preparing the Base Concrete
First, high-standard concrete is poured, vibrated, and compacted. The surface is then leveled and smoothed with a cement mortar.
Step 2: Spreading the Colorant Powder
Once the concrete reaches its initial setting stage, it’s time to apply the BES Concrete Colorant.
- Spread 2/3 of the specified amount evenly over the surface.
- Wait for it to absorb moisture, then use a manual iron plate to level and polish.
- Once it reacts sufficiently with the concrete, apply the remaining 1/3 and repeat the polishing process. This ensures deep color penetration and a uniform finish.
Step 3: Leveling and Smoothing
To guarantee a perfectly flat surface, at least three manual iron plate leveling operations must be performed. These operations should be staggered to ensure the colorant and concrete are fully integrated.
Step 4: Applying Release Agent & Stamping
This is the moment of artistic creation.
- When the surface is dry to the touch (no obvious moisture), evenly spread the BES Mold Release Agent Powder. This prevents the molds from sticking and creates beautiful secondary highlights.
- Stamping: Press the chosen molds (whether BES hard molds for large areas or soft molds for walls and edges) firmly into the concrete.
- Technique: Apply uniform pressure, keep the mold flat, and ensure consistent depth. Never heavily re-press a mold once it has been lifted, as this causes blurring.
Step 5: Curing and Flushing
Patience is key here. Allow the stamped concrete to cure for 48 to 72 hours (depending on the climate).
- After curing, use a high-pressure water gun to wash away the surface release agent powder.
- For any stubborn residue, use a soft brush to assist. Allow the surface to dry completely.
Step 6: Applying the Sealing Protector
The final step is applying the BES Sealing Protector (transparent polyurethane). This is best done within 8 to 10 days after stamping.
- Ensure the surface is clean and completely dry.
- Apply the protector evenly using a long-handled roller.
- Benefits: The BES protective agent forms a tough, transparent layer that resists oxygen, chemicals, and UV radiation, ensuring the texture and color remain vibrant and long-lasting. The surface can be used within 5 to 8 hours after application.
💡 Why Choose BES for Your Stamped Concrete Project?
- Superior Integration: Our nano-engineered colorants chemically react with the concrete surface, ensuring the color never peels or fades.
- High Durability: Our materials meet or exceed national standards for wear resistance, compressive strength, and anti-slip properties.
- Hard & Soft Mold Versatility: Whether you are paving a massive municipal greenway (using our red hard molds) or detailing a complex wall/edge (using our yellow soft molds), BES has the right tools for the job.
🌟 Conclusion
Stamped concrete is more than just a surface; it’s an investment in your property’s aesthetic and functional value. By following this rigorous process and using BES’s premium material system, you can create pavement that mirrors natural beauty while offering exceptional durability.
